In today's world, I think blogging is not as far reaching as it might have once been. Usually people take to social media to hear people's opinions on things from movies, to music or fashion. However, blogs can help people gain knowledge from other people's experiences which often offer more information and tips on a specific subject.
Take the travel blog, Y travel, for example. This is run by the parents of a family who travel all around the world and have experiences traveling alone, as a couple, and now as a family. What I love most about their website is how organized it is. Anyone could enter it as easily navigate themselves to the blog entires most relevant to them, such as what to expect when heading to a certain part of the world. Even if one's destination cannot be found on their site, they have more general tips for packing, finding places to stay, and money management. They even gave advice on how to overcome debt with the knowledge they gained after getting rid of a 30,000 dollar debt! They also don't have ANY ads, which I would say is unusual for most websites of this nature, but I'm thankful for it.
However, some blogs are created just for one to share their own opinion (kind of like this one). If we go to The Film.blog, we will find multiple entries that are technically still one's own experience being shared, but it is completely subjective to the blog owner. This isn't to say it's a bad blog, but something about the author's writing and the phrases they used told me that this blog is for people who have very similar tastes. So, when I read this blog, there was very little that resonated with me.
Yet, stumbling upon a blog about music who's author also likes Mac Miller (my favorite musician), made me realize that not all opinion based blogs are unenjoyable. You just need to find the one for you! For me, Mac Miller is a person who can make me happy just at the sound of their name, and I especially love learning new things about him, which this entry did for me. It also helps that I was listening to his music when I found it.
Blogs may not be a good source to use for an essay, but there is definitely some credibility to be found in people who have a lot of experience, or who clearly have the same interests as you. It's kind of like meeting a new person and figuring out if they would be compatible with you in a friendship, as someone to hang out with just for fun or to turn to for advice!
So, what do you say? Friends?
